Why it matters

More than just aesthetics

Laser hair removal for men isn't about vanity. It's about how you feel every day. Whether it's the back you're self-conscious about at the pool, the ingrown hairs on your neck from shaving, or simply the time you waste each week maintaining body hair, the benefits are practical and personal.

Our male clients consistently tell us the same thing: they wish they'd done it sooner.

Confidence at the pool

Stop avoiding situations because of back or chest hair. Many clients describe this as genuinely life-changing.

End the shaving cycle

Razor burn, ingrown hairs and daily maintenance — gone. Permanent reduction means a fraction of the upkeep.

Performance benefits

Cyclists, swimmers, triathletes and gym-goers reduce friction, chafing and improve hygiene significantly.

Suitable for all skin tones

The Candela GentleMax Pro PLUS is safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types — including darker tones — with the 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength.

Male-specific protocols

Men's hair is coarser and grows in different patterns. We use male-specific fluence settings, spot sizes and session spacing for every area.

Time back in your week

Back maintenance, shaving, trimming — it adds up. Most clients reclaim several hours a month.

The maths

Five years of shaving vs. a course of laser

Run the numbers on the daily routine you've never questioned.

Daily shaving
  • £600 to £1,200 spent on razors and product over 5 years
  • 15 to 30 minutes lost every shave
  • Recurring ingrown hairs and razor burn
  • Daily nicks, irritation, regrowth in 24 hours
  • Never permanent. Every shave repeats.
  • Razor bumps (PFB) and folliculitis cycle never resolves
  • Hidden at the pool. Avoided situations. Day-after-day self-consciousness.
Laser at Peonella
  • One course per area, paid once
  • 20 to 60 minutes per session, 8 to 10 sessions total
  • Ingrown hairs and razor burn eliminated
  • Smoother skin, no daily irritation
  • Permanent reduction with light annual maintenance
  • FDA-cleared treatment for pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB) — the clinical name for chronic razor bumps that shaving cycles can't fix
  • Confidence is the most-cited benefit. Partner-preference surveys back it up: 70 to 80% prefer reduced back and chest hair.

Straight answers

Questions men actually ask

The ones we hear most often before the first session. Anything else, ask at your consultation.

Will laser affect my testosterone or hormones?+

No. The laser only reaches the hair follicle within the skin. It doesn't penetrate to glands, organs or anywhere systemic. Hormone levels and body chemistry are entirely unaffected.

What about grey or white hairs?+

Laser targets pigment (melanin) in the hair shaft. Grey and white hairs have no pigment, so the laser can't see them. If your beard or back has a meaningful proportion of grey, we'll flag it at your consultation and explain what to realistically expect.

Can I still grow a beard if I do beard-line laser?+

Inside the lines you're keeping, yes. The treated areas (the edge along the cheek, jaw and neck) are permanent though, so it pays to be sure of your shape before starting. Bring photos of how you want it to look to your consultation.

Does it hurt? Especially on the back?+

A brief hot rubber-band snap, with cooling on every pulse from the Candela. Less than waxing, and far less than most men expect. The back is actually one of the more comfortable areas because the skin is thicker.

How many sessions for the back?+

Typically 8 to 10 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart for the initial course. After that, most clients come back once or twice a year for light maintenance. We set realistic expectations at your patch test.

Is laser safe on darker skin tones?+

Yes. The Candela GentleMax Pro PLUS has the 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength specifically validated for Fitzpatrick V and VI skin tones. We treat all skin tones safely, including the ones older lasers couldn't handle.
